Step up your boxed brownies!
I was inspired to try this idea a couple of years ago after watching an episode of Giada De Laurentiis where she mixed heated jam into her brownies. Ever since I have been able to whip up gourmet brownies in a synch. Here’s what you need and how:
Dark Chocolate Raspberry Almond Brownies
Yields 16 brownies
1 box of brownie mix (recommended: Ghirardelli, Betty Crocker)
3 Tablespoons of jam (recommended raspberry)
1/3 cup of slivered almonds
1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips
Follow the instructions and make brownies according to the box. Then heat up about three tablespoons of jam in a small saucepan over low heat or in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl. Toast 1/3 a cup of slivered almonds in a dry pan or on a cookie sheet at 350º until fragrant. Pour the brownie mix into a pan and spoon jam on top. Swirl the jam into brownie batter with a butter knife or spoon. Then sprinkle mini chocolate chips and toasted almonds on top of brownies. Bake according to the box. Note, however that they may require additional baking time because the jam adds additional moisture.
