Fruit Salsa


My mom and I fell in love with this savory fruit salsa a few years ago at a family picnic. After we begged my aunt for the recipe we have been making it ever since.  People are always impressed by this simple appetizer with all the bright, fresh fruit, but it couldn’t be easier to make. It is the perfect poolside snack or appetizer for any summer party. Make this recipe for a memorial day weekend party or graduation to kick off the summer.


Mangos are very popular in fruit salsas; however, I don’t put them in mine because my mother is extremely allergic. The great thing about this recipe, though, is that there is a lot of flexibility. If you don’t care for a certain fruit or you are catering to a food allergy you can replace items with other fruits.  You can also change the recipe based on whats in season.  Right now strawberries are in season, so they are perfect to use in this.

I would recommend making homemade cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips to serve with this salsa. However, if you don’t have time to make your own cinnamon chips you can certainly buy them at the grocery store. In some stores you can find cinnamon and sugar chips but if you can’t, plain tortilla chips or pita chips will compliment this salsa just fine.  We often have flour tortillas in our freezer, so it is easy to take them out and bake them with butter and cinnamon and sugar. Nothing compares to the warm, buttery tortilla chips covered in cinnamon and sugar straight from the oven!IMG_6018IMG_6017

Better Homes and Garden Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Tortilla Chips

Yields 10-12 Servings

Tortilla Chips

8 Flour Tortillas

3 Tablespoons of cinnamon and sugar (mixed – half and half)

1 Stick of Melted Butter


Preheat the oven to 350º. Then, cut each tortilla into 8 pieces.  Lay the pieces of tortilla and brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and then cook them for 15 minutes. (Keep an eye on them, however, because they cook fast, so you might need to take them out of the oven so they don’t burn.) 

Fruit Salsa

1 cup of strawberries

1 medium orange

3 kiwis

1/2 cup of pineapple

1/4 cup of green onions

1/4 cup of yellow pepper

1 lemon (juiced)


Chop all of the ingredients into very fine small cubes.  Then, add all of the ingredients into a bowl. (Except for the strawberries; add them before you serve them otherwise the salsa will turn bright red!) Then, add the lemon juice, mix it all together and serve with the tortilla chips.
